Tuesday, Jun. 22nd, 2004: Florence Tour:
June 22, 2004 is the date for a tour of the area that was Territorial Florence before Nebraska became a state. Florence was one of the initial river cities founded 150 years ago in the new Nebraska Territory, said tour guide Linda Meigs. She is director of the Florence Mill, 9102 N. 30th St. (()), which is being renovated into a cultural and educational center. The tour on Ollie the Trolley will tell the "boom-to-nearly-bust saga" of Territorial Florence, Meigs said. Participants will meet at 2 P.M. at the Mormon Pioneer Cemetery, 3215 State St. (()) Tickets are $10. Reservations should be made by Friday by calling 402-551-1233. The Florence Mill, which is a historic landmark, is open to visitors until August 31 from 1 P.M. to 5 P.M. on Tuesdays through Sundays. |
